about

A few weeks ago we reviewed the album, "Mistah Nerf - RMX2″ by Mistah Nerf an Electronic Dance Music producer from the Philippines. Mistah Nerf is recognized byBeats 4 Djs Records and it's subdivisions as a rare talent hailing from his country. He started climbing the ranks as a recognized producer with his debut song "Linkin Park 'Bleed It Out' Remix" and "Come My Way Feat. Ishmael Johnson". His first EP "The M-Bomb Has Landed" had indeed landed him on numerous compilations with the likes of Laidback Luck, Tiramitsu, and Dario Synth to name a few.

We've just been delivered a pre-release copy of Mistah Nerf's upcoming album set for global distribution on Feb 28th 2014, through High Frequency Records a subdivision of Beats 4 Djs Records. And straight off the bat, from track one - "Ascension", the recognizable wobble bass, heavy drops and filthy synths of the Philippines' Dubstep Producer from Iloilo City, is clearly audible.

In fact, Mistah Nerf has never hit harder than on this album. The music on "Bassline" arcs from atmospheric orchestrations to dramatic build so well and delivers so many massive drops, that by the time it arrives you are just about ready to explode. This is one of the most well put together EDM albums I've heard in a long, long time. Definitely Dubstep, but Mistah Nerf does a fantastic job of fading in and out of lyrics, samples, techno, ambient and all the rest. I would purchase this solely on its level of composition and mixing, but the modern musical aspect takes it to a new level.

"Bassline" is intense and dives deep into the electro-dubstep tidal wave, all throughout the seventeen tracks, conjuring up seductive vocals and intense beat structures to match. I really did enjoy this album. It hits hard where it needs to, lets up at the right places and most of the tracks I can listen to, all the way through on a shuffle. The standouts for me, include: "Ascension", "Bassline", "Big Love", "Breakdown", "Firecracker", "Give It Hard" and "Move", or to be more precise, I just dug the entire first half of the album beyond explanation!

Mistah Nerf now sets the bar for how I judge new independent dubstep/EDM artists. The production is so slick and Mistah Nerf really takes a focused approach to songs, where as some lesser artists' songs, tend to run into each other blindly. "Bassline" makes no promise of being completely faithful to old school Dubstep. In fact the latter half of the album goes beyond Dubstep. It pushes further, beyond boundaries. Mistah Nerf breathes new life into a genre that for many was quickly becoming stale.
